I got the idea while daydreaming in mythology class. Riku as celestial god of night (moon) and Sora as day (sun). It just works too well for these binaries. And is so very idealistic and pretty. We all know how I like glowy things. 
I'd do a reverse, too (aka day), but I don't have the time anymore. 
It's a cute mythology though, isn't it? Ah, the stories I could make up.
